Cobourg Beach Family Session {Melissa Maahs Photography // Cobourg Photographer}

This sweet little girl recently celebrated her second birthday! When the family contacted me for a family session, during the session planning consultation, they mentioned that their baby girl was about to turn two and they really wanted to celebrate by having their first family session held at an outdoor location on Lake Ontario in Cobourg. Their daughter absolutely loves the beach and they spend a lot of time there in the summer. We agreed that Cobourg beach was the perfect location for the session. During the planning meeting, mom mentioned that she wanted a large bouquet of balloons in some of the photos to show that they were celebrating their daughter’s birthday. To be honest, we didn’t have high expectations on how this would go with a giant bouquet of balloons, a two year old, and a beach location which could potentially be very windy!! Thankfully it wasn’t a windy day and she didn’t get carried away…although that would have been an amazing shot! Ha! 😉 This little girl and her mom and dad were a dream to work with. We ended up having enough time for two locations and a wardrobe change due to the fact that their toddler was so happy and easy going. I truly believe that when photographing young children, you have a better chance at getting amazing photos by just letting them play, have fun, and not force them too much into specific poses and restrict them by having them stay in a certain area. We just let this little girl and her family do what they usually do at the beach. They played in the water, played in the sand, picked up rocks, picked flowers, and got wet! After all, that’s what you do at the beach! By just letting the family be ‘in the moment’ with each other we were able to document some genuine, candid, and emotive moments for them to look back on and cherish forever. The family decided the best way to preserve their treasured portraits was in a large, 12″x12″ heirloom family album. I can’t wait to receive and deliver their album to them. It’s going to be amazing! They will be able to flip through this album and enjoy the photos from this very special time in their lives when their baby was so little. Their album is archival, and will survive the test of time and be able to be passed down to generations after their own. Be sure to scroll to the end of the photo gallery to see the end product.
